Congestion Relief Bath Salts Recipe
This congestion relief bath salts recipe is a tried and true natural remedy at our house to give relief from colds, congestion and sinus pressure.
Right after Christmas, my husband Zach came down with a sore throat and a throbbing headache from sinus pressure. We’ve thankfully managed to steer clear of colds and sinus troubles these past couple of years, but not this year. This bug was showing no mercy to my husband. It came with a vengeance and made Zach feel terrible for a few days. You know – stuffy nose, headache, sore throat, aches – the works. Poor guy.
I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I know just how yucky sinus troubles and congestion can be and knew exactly what would give him some relief. I mixed together a blend of healing salts, detoxifying baking soda and mucus loosening eucalyptus essential oil. I drew him a warm bath, poured in a cup of the salts and told him to soak for at least 20 minutes.
And it did the job wonderfully! Not only did it give him relief from the sinus pressure, but it got rid of his aches and helped him sleep soundly, too. These congestion relief bath salts worked so well for him that I thought I’d give you my little secret for relieving congestion and sinus pressure naturally. I hope my recipe down below works just as well for you!

Congestion Relief Bath Salts Recipe:
1 cup Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is the common name for the naturally occurring mineral, magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is known to many as the miracle mineral. Although magnesium has many different health benefits (supplementing with THIS magnesium has changed my life, but that’s a whole other post!), it’s probably the most well known for it’s ability to reduce pain and inflammation. The reason it works so well at helping congestion and sinus pressure is that it reduces inflammation in the swollen, inflamed mucous membranes. You can find epsom salt very easily at drug stores and grocery stores. I use THIS.
1/2 cup Sea Salt
Sea salt baths have been used historically for medicinal purposes for many different ailments. Sea salt is rich in minerals and helps the body release toxins. Make sure you use for unrefined sea salt – you can find this inexpensively at grocery stores. I use THIS.
1/2 cup Baking Soda
Baking soda helps draw toxins out of the body and increases your body’s ability to absorb minerals. I use THIS.
15 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Eucalyptus essential oil can help open up and soothe the tissue in the respiratory system. It’s known to help relieve the symptoms associated with the flu, colds, congestion, sinus pressure, bronchitis and mucous membrane inflammation. Look for high quality, pure, therapeutic essential oil to get the most bang for your buck. I use THIS – it’s Eucalyptus Radiata, which is a gentler, non-irrating and the preferred version of Eucalyptus for children.
